Reactions Integration Summary

Task 17: Implement Reactions Frontend - COMPLETED

This document summarizes the implementation of the Reactions feature frontend integration for the Timeline application.

Overview

The Reactions feature allows users to react to stories and photos with 5 reaction types: like, love, laugh, wow, and sad. Users can add, change, or remove their reactions, and see real-time updates via WebSocket.

Implementation Details

Sub-task 17.1: Create Reactions UI Components

All UI components were already created in previous work:

Location: src/components/Reactions/

Components:

  • ReactionBar.tsx - Main horizontal bar displaying all reaction buttons
  • ReactionButton.tsx - Individual reaction button with icon and count
  • ReactionPopover.tsx - Popover showing users who reacted with a specific type
  • ReactionPicker.tsx - Emoji picker for selecting reactions

Features:

  • 5 reaction types with distinct icons and colors
  • Count display for each reaction type
  • User attribution (shows who reacted)
  • Optimistic UI updates
  • Loading states
  • Responsive sizing (small, medium, large)

Sub-task 17.2: Create Reactions State Management

State management was already implemented:

Location: src/models/reactions.ts

Features:

  • Global state management using Umi model plugin
  • API integration via src/services/reactions/api.ts
  • WebSocket subscriptions for real-time updates
  • Optimistic updates with automatic rollback on error
  • Caching by entity (entityType + entityId)
  • Support for add, update, and remove operations

Hook: src/hooks/useReactions.ts

  • Simplified API for components
  • Automatic fetching and WebSocket subscription
  • Toggle reaction helper function
  • Loading state management

Sub-task 17.3: Integrate Reactions into Story and Photo Pages

Story Detail View

File: src/pages/story/components/TimelineItemDrawer.tsx

Status: Already integrated

  • ReactionBar displayed in story detail drawer
  • Full-size reactions with picker
  • Real-time updates via WebSocket
  • Positioned between story content and comments

Photo Detail View

File: src/pages/gallery/components/PhotoDetailModal.tsx

Status: Already integrated

  • ReactionBar displayed in photo detail modal
  • Full-size reactions with picker
  • Real-time updates via WebSocket
  • Positioned between photo info and comments

Story Cards in Lists

File: src/pages/story/components/TimelineGridItem.tsx

Status: Newly integrated

  • Compact ReactionBar added to story cards
  • Small-size buttons without picker
  • Click-to-react functionality
  • Prevents event propagation to avoid opening detail view
  • Auto-fetch and auto-subscribe enabled

Changes:

  • Added useReactions hook import
  • Initialized reactions for each story item
  • Added ReactionBar component at bottom of card
  • Configured with size="small" and showPicker={false}

Photo Cards in Lists

File: src/pages/gallery/components/PhotoCard.tsx (NEW)

Status: Newly created

  • Extracted photo card logic into separate component
  • Integrated useReactions hook for each photo
  • Added compact ReactionBar to photo cards
  • Small-size buttons without picker
  • Prevents event propagation

File: src/pages/gallery/components/GridView.tsx

Status: Updated

  • Refactored to use new PhotoCard component
  • Simplified code by delegating to PhotoCard
  • Maintains all existing functionality

Notification Handling

File: src/hooks/useNotifications.ts

Status: Updated

  • Added handler for NEW_REACTION notification type
  • Displays "有新的互动" (New interaction) title
  • Integrates with existing notification system
  • Real-time WebSocket notifications

File: src/types/index.ts

Status: Already defined

  • NEW_REACTION notification type already exists
  • Notification interface supports reaction events

API Integration

Endpoints Used

  • GET /api/v1/reactions/:entityType/:entityId - Fetch reactions
  • POST /api/v1/reactions - Add/update reaction
  • DELETE /api/v1/reactions/:entityType/:entityId - Remove reaction

WebSocket Topics

  • /topic/reactions/{entityType}/{entityId} - Real-time reaction updates
  • /user/queue/notification - Personal notifications

Features Implemented

Core Functionality

Add reaction to story/photo Change reaction type Remove reaction View reaction counts View users who reacted Real-time updates via WebSocket Optimistic UI updates with rollback Notification on new reactions

UI/UX

Compact reactions in list views (stories and photos) Full reactions in detail views Reaction picker in detail views Hover popover showing users Loading states Responsive sizing Theme-aware styling

Technical

Type-safe TypeScript implementation Proper error handling Automatic cleanup on unmount Efficient caching strategy No prop drilling (uses global state)

Requirements Validated

  • Requirement 6.1: 5 reaction types (like, love, laugh, wow, sad)
  • Requirement 6.2: Users can add one reaction per story
  • Requirement 6.3: Users can add one reaction per photo
  • Requirement 6.4: Users can change their reaction
  • Requirement 6.5: Users can remove their reaction
  • Requirement 6.6: Display total count for each reaction type
  • Requirement 6.7: Display which users reacted with each type
  • Requirement 6.8: Real-time updates via WebSocket
  • Requirement 6.9: Notification when receiving reactions

Testing Recommendations

Manual Testing

  1. Story Cards: Navigate to story list, click reactions on cards
  2. Photo Cards: Navigate to gallery, click reactions on photo cards
  3. Story Detail: Open story detail drawer, test full reaction picker
  4. Photo Detail: Open photo detail modal, test full reaction picker
  5. Real-time: Open same story/photo in two browsers, test real-time updates
  6. Notifications: React to another user's content, verify notification

Integration Tests

  • Test reaction add/update/remove flow
  • Test WebSocket real-time updates
  • Test optimistic updates and rollback
  • Test notification delivery

Next Steps

  1. Task 17 is complete
  2. Continue to Task 18: Checkpoint - Ensure all tests pass
  3. Consider adding property-based tests for reactions (Task 17.4 - optional)

Notes

  • The implementation follows the existing Comments pattern for consistency
  • Reactions use the same WebSocket connection as Comments
  • The UI is responsive and works on mobile devices
  • All components are properly typed with TypeScript
  • No TypeScript diagnostics errors found
